Ambiguity as a Postcolonial Strategy in The Reluctant Fundamentalist and Season of Migration to the North

Ambiguity as a Postcolonial Strategy in The Reluctant Fundamentalist and Season of Migration to the North Engage with a relevant theoretical framework in the introduction and throughout your essay. This could be Spivak's theory of the female subaltern or Edward Said's theory of Orientalism. To engage with a theoretical framework, you need to clearly explain the theory to the reader who may be unfamiliar with it in the beginning of the essay. For those of you who are confused about what theoretical framework to use, or about how to explain them, I have created a "cheat sheet" that you can use, a summary of four different theoretical frameworks and their potential applications to the novels we have read in the course. In the introduction of your essay, you should explain the theoretical framework and address one or both of the following questions: How does the theory enable a better of understanding of the novels? And/or, how does one or more of the novels challenge the theory? Create an argument. That is, draw an original conclusion about your topic through your comparison, which should emphasize either the connection or the contrast between the novels. Relate this conclusion to your theoretical framework. How does the literary comparison enable an understanding of your topic that goes beyond or accords with the theoretical framework? Offer the reader a historical and biographical context of each novel, ideally after the introduction. Support your argument with paratextual evidence (statements made by the authors in interviews and/or other writings by the authors- not relevant if you are writing about Othello) and through a comparative analysis of the novels. You will want to create subtopics and analyze each text in separate paragraphs, while linking your discussion of each text with transition words such as "Like," "Unlike," "While," "Whereas." Have a conclusion that underscores the significance of the new understanding of your topic that has emerged from your analysis and makes a real world connection. Your paper should be at least 5 pages in length, double-spaced, 12 Times New Roman font, with an MLA Works Cited page. You should include a title and a proper heading. Each page should be numbered.
