Dustin Ore Posted .Having a spirit of inquiry as an advanced registered nurse, is to possess an ongoing curiosity and use the best evidenced based practiceguidance that you have as a nurse to make sure that the problem is addressed in the proper channels and that the evidence lines up with what you are trying to accomplish with the study. "A core factory in the evidence-based practice journey is the development of nurses who possess a spirit of inquiry within a culture that a systematic process for asking clinical questions" (Wyant, T, 2018). Elizabeth post. Evidence-Based Practices allow for innovation of health care and outlines standards of care. Spirit of inquiry is defined as the thoughts or questions that ignite change within the clinical setting (Monturo & Brockway, 2019, p.416).
This creates a culture of questioning practices and influencing practices to mirror the latest research (Johnston et al., 2016, p.393). Depending on the organization's culture, it can sometimes be difficult to implement evidence-based practice because change is met with resistance (Johnston et al., 2016, p.394). It can be difficult to step outside a comfort zone into unfamiliar territory. There are four concepts to be mindful of as one becomes involves in the process of change. Buy-in is the increase of interest in policy issues and affects how a Registered Nurse can practice within an individualized role (Agapoff et al., 2019, p.140). Self-interest comes when a nurse has a specific interest within the nursing profession and becomes passionate about changing the care provided to a specific population (Agapoff et al., 2019, p.142). To take steps to become more involved, it would first be important to evaluate the nursing profession and focus on disparities in care and current policy (Johnston et al., 2016, p.394).
Developing professional relationships with stakeholders will provide professional guidance to develop new policies further and include them into the policy (Monturo & Brockway, 2019, p. 416). Examining current policy and utilizing evidence-based practice can combine these to create an improved policy (Agapoff et al., 2019, p.144). Being able to develop a strong position on an issue and repeating it to multiple individuals, in many ways, and find ways to incorporate it into care, one will become more confident in the position and able to present this position to a group (Monturo & Brockway, 2019, p.417). The 21st century has been full of research, leading to evidence-based practice, which has further defined the scopes of practice for nursing and has given nurses increased opportunities for education and certifications to serve better patients and communities (Johnston et al., 2016, p.395).
With increased educational requirements and the requirement for certification for an Advanced Registered Nurse increased the scope of practice expectations for nurses in respective fields (Johnston et al., 2016, p. 396). Continuing to be a life-long learner, as the knowledge base grows, one can gain the knowledge to share ideas on a larger scale. Transitioning into the role of an Advanced Public Health Nurse will further allow this exposure and the opportunity to advocate for the change in health policy and delivery in care (Agapoff et al., 2019, p.144). Public health education, recommendations, and services are based on evidence-based practice and medical research. Informatics assist public health nurses in surveillance, prevention, preparedness, and health promotion (Agapoff et al., 2019, p.143)
