Explain why businesses might choose to implement an action research approach rather than a traditional research approach to solving problems. Support your ideas with a relevant business example. My understanding of action research as opposed to traditional research is that action is active research while traditional research is more passive. Traditional research involves watching a process and recording the results and analyzing the data from the observations. Active research is more of a process, where the person involved in the process is actively involved in the process and attempting to reach a desired outcome with their actions. Businesses would likely choose to implement an action research approach so that they may apply the research to an issue that they are directly interested in. For example, nationwide there is a toilet paper shortage. Businesses may choose to study this problem if they produce toilet paper. The business may try a new approach to producing the toilet paper with a desired outcome to be that they produce that paper either faster or cheaper. This would be an active approach. Traditional research might involve them studying an organization that produces printer paper to see how they are producing paper and studying that data. Because they have no say or input on how that company produces the printer paper, they are not taking an action research approach.
